New idea from a none physics person

topic posted Sat, November 18, 2006 - 4:20 AM by  Lee
Hi my name is Lee

I have this idea about physics.
In fact is several ideas.

1. In bodies like planets the room space have a singularity in the middle of them where the room space fabric can't keep the material in that small spot in the material state but rather
lets the material convert back into energy according to E= mc2.

This would explain why planets are hot inside...
There is other explanations I know but this I think is a new one.

What do you think is a good theory?

    Hi Lee,
I would have to say this isn't a good theory. I see several problems.

There is nothing that suggests there is a singularity in the middle of any planet. Particularly, if you're speaking of General Relativity, there is no singularity like you get in the middle of a black hole.

The pressure at the center of planets like Earth is not high enough to cause nuclear reactions. I believe some planets are thought to generate heat this way, but only very large ones.

You have not given any examples of things your theory explains that cannot be explained by other models.

You have not suggested any new, testable predictions that would help prove your model to be correct.

So, what we have is a situation where current models fit with the current underlying accepted physics and explain (as far as I know) a lot of the known observations (they certainly explain why planets are hot inside). The biggest problem is that your theory does not derive from accepted principles (pressure at the core). Unless you can show how this explains something new, there is nothing compelling about your theory that would make me want to spend effort trying to validate it. Making new predictions would be mildly compelling. Suggesting how your idea might explain something that doesn't fit with current ideas would be much more interesting.
